The PDF is laid out, not photographed
CLEKARA reads the document the way Word stores it — the text, the paragraph styles, the numbering, the tables and the embedded pictures — and then lays it out again: every line is measured with the real metrics of the font, broken where it has to be broken, and aligned or justified as the original asked. Tables are drawn cell by cell with their borders, and when a table crosses a page its header row is repeated.
Styles are resolved the way Word resolves them. Bold or a font size can come from the text itself, from the paragraph style or from the document defaults, and all three are taken into account. That is why a “Heading 1” comes out as a heading and not as body text, and why the bullets of a list are not lost.
What it will not do
The PDF uses the fonts built into every PDF reader: Helvetica, Times and Courier. Your document keeps its words, its structure and its emphasis, but a decorative or corporate typeface is replaced by the closest of those three.
Those built-in fonts cover English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese and Italian completely, but not Cyrillic, Greek, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic or Hebrew. A document written in those alphabets is stopped with an explanation instead of producing a PDF full of gaps; if only a few symbols are affected, the conversion goes ahead and tells you how many were left out.
Headers and footers, text boxes, footnotes, WordArt, charts and drawings made with Word’s shape tools are not reproduced. Old .doc files (Word 97–2003) are a different, binary format: open them in Word or LibreOffice and save them as .docx first.
Frequently asked questions
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No. The .docx is read in memory and the PDF is built by code running in this tab. Nothing is sent to a CLEKARA server.
Will the PDF look exactly like my document in Word?
It keeps the content, the styles, the lists, the tables and the images, the page size and the margins. What changes is the typeface when your document uses a font that is not one of the built-in PDF fonts, and some advanced elements such as headers, footers and text boxes. For a pixel-exact copy, use File → Save as PDF in Word itself.
Can I convert a .doc file?
Not directly. A .doc is the old binary Word format, unrelated to .docx inside. Open it and save it as .docx, then convert it here.
Why did it refuse my document?
Almost always because it is written in an alphabet the built-in PDF fonts cannot draw. CLEKARA stops instead of giving you a PDF with missing letters. Word and LibreOffice can export it correctly because they embed the full font.
Is the PDF checked?
Yes. After it is created, it is reopened with the same PDF engine the rest of CLEKARA uses and its pages are counted before the download is offered.
