Turn the tables of a PDF into an Excel workbook

Drop a PDF and get an .xlsx where every figure is a real number. Tables are read cell by cell inside this browser tab — your file never leaves your device.

HOW TO USE IT
  1. Drop a PDF on the page or press Select PDF.
  2. Choose one sheet per page, or everything on a single sheet if the table continues across pages.
  3. Press Convert to Excel. The workbook is reopened and checked before the download is offered.
HOW IT WORKS

Numbers that are numbers

Tables drawn with lines are read using the grid itself: every cell the PDF drew becomes one cell in Excel, with no guessing. Text outside those tables is split at its wide gaps, and the columns are worked out from the whole page, so a figure aligned to the right still lands in the same column as the ones above it.

Then comes the part most converters get wrong: a PDF stores “1.240” as plain characters, and that means one thousand two hundred and forty in Spain or Peru but one point two four in the United States. CLEKARA looks at the whole document to learn which decimal separator it uses — a “34,50” or a “1.212,00” gives it away — and converts every value with that rule. When a figure is genuinely ambiguous and the document gives no clue, it is kept as text and you are told, because a number silently misread is worse than one you have to fix by hand.

Values are stored with Excel’s built-in number formats, so they display with the separators of whoever opens the file.

LIMITS

What it will not do

A scanned PDF has no text inside, only pictures of it. There is nothing to extract, so CLEKARA stops and says so instead of handing you an empty workbook. Reading scans needs OCR, which is not part of this tool.

Images and charts are not copied, because a spreadsheet cell cannot hold them; you are told how many were left out. Formulas cannot be recovered either: a PDF only stores the results, never the calculation behind them.

Tables without borders are rebuilt from the alignment of their columns. That works well with clean reports and statements, and less well with complex layouts where text of different columns overlaps.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is my file uploaded anywhere?

No. The PDF is read into memory and the workbook is built by code running in this tab. Nothing is sent to a CLEKARA server.

Are the numbers real numbers?

Yes. Figures are stored as numeric values with Excel’s own formats, so SUM, sorting and charts work immediately. Codes with leading zeros and very long references are kept as text on purpose, so they are not damaged.

Why are some figures still text?

Because they were ambiguous. “1.240” can mean 1240 or 1.24, and if nothing else in the document shows which convention it uses, guessing could make a total wrong without anyone noticing.

Can it recover the formulas?

No. A PDF stores the result of a calculation, never the formula behind it. The values come across; the formulas have to be written again.

Does it work with scanned statements?

No. A scan is a picture of the text. CLEKARA detects it and stops instead of producing an empty file.
