Add page numbers to a PDF
Choose where the numbers go and how they look, check the live preview of the real page, and download the numbered PDF. Nothing is uploaded.
Drop the PDF you want to number
or pick a file from your device
- Open the PDF. The preview shows its first page.
- Pick the position and the format — 1, 1 / 10, Page 1 of 10 or your own. If the document has a cover, start numbering on page 2, and choose which number to start from.
- Check the preview, press Add page numbers and download the PDF.
What you see is exactly what you get
The preview is not a mock-up: CLEKARA actually numbers the page you are looking at and draws it, so the position, font and size are exactly what the downloaded PDF will have. Move through the pages to check any of them.
Numbers are written as real text with the standard PDF fonts, so they are sharp at any zoom, can be selected and searched, and add almost nothing to the file size. Pages in landscape or rotated pages get their number in the right place too.
Book mode alternates the side on odd and even pages, so in a printed booklet the numbers always land on the outer edge.
Worth knowing
The number is added on top of the page. If the page already has text exactly where the number goes, choose another position or a larger margin.
Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked first.
Custom formats can use {n} for the page number and {total} for the last number, for example “Sheet {n} of {total}”.
Frequently asked questions
How do I add page numbers to a PDF?
Open it here, choose the position and the format, and press Add page numbers. It is free and has no watermark.
Can I skip the cover page?
Yes. Set Start numbering on page to 2. You can also choose the first number, so the second page can show 1.
Can I use “Page 1 of 10”?
Yes. Choose that format, or write your own with {n} and {total}.
Will the numbers be blurry when printed?
No. They are real text, not an image, so they are sharp at any size.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. Everything happens inside this browser tab.
