What it is

CLEKARA is a set of free tools for everyday work with PDF files: compress, merge, split and organise pages, turn pages into JPG images and images into a PDF, and convert between PDF and Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

There is no account and no upload step. You open a tool, choose a file and download the result.

How the tools work

Every tool runs inside your browser tab. Your file is read into memory on your device, processed there and handed back to you as a download; its contents are not sent to a CLEKARA server. The privacy policy explains what our host can and cannot see.

The work is done by open-source software running in the page: Ghostscript compiled to WebAssembly for compression, PDF.js to read PDFs, pdf-lib to write them and JSZip for Office files. The licences page lists each one and its licence.

What it cannot do yet

It does not do OCR: a scanned PDF is a picture of text, and the conversions stop and say so instead of producing an empty document.

There is no PowerPoint to PDF converter yet. Word and Excel to PDF use the standard PDF fonts, which cover Western European languages but not Cyrillic, Greek or Asian scripts; a document written in those scripts is stopped with an explanation.

Who publishes it

CLEKARA is published by CLEKARA, Peru. The terms of use and the privacy policy apply to the whole site.

How it is paid for

The tools are free. The site is meant to be paid for with advertising through Google AdSense, which only loads after you accept it; the cookie policy explains the details. Refusing advertising does not limit any tool.
